Strathberry x Shrimps: Behind the Collaboration

Our collaboration with British cult fashion label Shrimps is finally here. It’s a witty and whimsical collection that highlights the eccentricities of Shrimps’ designs, married with the architecturally designed bag silhouettes of Strathberry. The result is a beautiful harmony of craftsmanship and textures that are both timeless and playful.

We caught up with Shrimps Founder, Hannah Weiland, and Strathberry Co-Founder Leeanne Hundleby, to ask them questions on all things Strathberry x Shrimps, and to dive deeper into what is inspiring them both right now….

Hannah, how did the collaboration with Strathberry come about? Why did you want to work with Strathberry?

The Strathberry team reached out and I was immediately excited; from the first meeting, the design possibilities seemed endless. The Strathberry level of craftsmanship is so beautiful and intricate, and I couldn’t wait to see this translated into our collaborative designs.

Leanne, what inspired you to start the conversation about a collaboration with Shrimps?

I’ve been a fan of Shrimps for a long time and I have always admired Hannah’s creativity and playful approach to design. I love her fresh take on signature designs. As a brand, we knew that Shrimps also shared our passion for beautifully made products that are crafted to last, so a collaboration seemed fun and fitting.

What is Shrimps bringing to Strathberry with this collection?

Hannah: Colour, embroidery, pearls and a sense of joy.
Leeanne: Shrimps brings their eye-catching,  distinctive patterns and feminine designs to our Strathberry bags.

Leeanne, how do collaborations come about at Strathberry?

One of the most important things that we consider when deciding on collaborations is how well the potential partner brands fit our values and ethos. We view these collaborations as an extension of our Strathberry family.

Hannah, what was your inspiration behind the collaboration and your approach to adding your signature Shrimps touch to Strathberry’s iconic bag shapes?

I wanted to take classic, core Shrimps elements, such as floral embroidery, crochet trims and pearls, and use them across the iconic Strathberry bag shapes. With a focus on mini bags (which I have a penchant for) and a colour palette of terracotta, black and cream, the overall aesthetic combines the very best of both brands.

Which is your favourite piece in the collection and why?

Hannah: The Mosaic Nano crochet bag is my favourite in the range. I love the terracotta colour, the hand-stitched edge trim, and of course the embroidered flowers.

Leeanne: The stand-out piece in the collection for me is the Black Pearl Studded Mosaic Nano, I just feel it is so on trend right now and a great piece for transitioning into a more Autumn wardrobe.

Hannah, where do you go to feel inspired? Have your travels impacted your design approach?

I go to a lot of art galleries, antique fairs, markets, and vintage bookstores, both at home and when travelling.  I document so many details, from tiles on church floors to tableware in sweet Italian restaurants, fabrics, and signs I see… all of these kinds of details influence my designs.

Leeanne, where do you go to feel inspired?

I am inspired every day by the smallest of things. I feel most inspired when I am relaxed and have had time to fully decompress from everyday life. I love getting away up north in Scotland to our holiday house, which is a lovely haven for me and the family.

Hannah, what are your everyday bag essentials?

Sunglasses, lip balm, my phone, my diary, a packet of nuts (for much-needed snacking!)

Leeanne, what is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Barbara Johnson  once said “To be in your children’s memories tomorrow, you have to be in their lives today.”   I think it is so important to live in the present.  I have 4 kids and I really try to enjoy my time with them and appreciate the experiences we share together and make the most of the situations we face.    At times we all worry about lies ahead,  but as the years have passed I have increasingly tried to stop and embrace what we have here and now.

Hannah, what three songs are on repeat right now to inspire you?

I am listening to Oasis at the moment, as I am really excited about having got tickets for their comeback tour next summer.
