Strathberry Launch Second Collection in Edinburgh College of Art Design Project
This summer, Strathberry launches a collection of beautifully illustrated silk scarves, designed as part of an on-going creative project with Edinburgh College of Art.
Following the success of the first collection of silks created by Edinburgh College of Art students, to celebrate the opening of Strathberry’s Covent Garden boutique in July of 2021, we re-visited the Edinburgh University to set their Textile students another design competition.
The brief was simple – design a curated collection of silk scarves that inherently expresses your own personal style and evokes a sense cultural curiosity. As predicted, the level of creativity and artistry in the entries from the students was astounding. However, it was Jessica Turley’s work that stood out, as she cited inspiration from the early-Renaissance architecture from the Old Town in Edinburgh. Specifically, Jessica drew from historic landmarks in the city, including the National Library of Scotland and Greyfriars Kirkyard.
Jessica’s three prints showcase striking and bold designs, in an eye-catching colour palette inspired by the landscape of Strathberry’s home city. Radiant shades of pink compliment opulent blue tones in the elevated silks, amplifying the playful and expressive patterns that feature on feature on both our Silk Skinny Scarf and Silk Square Scarf.
Digitally developed with innovative techniques, Jessica’s hand-drawn designs capture the essence of Strathberry and bring the brand’s contemporary aesthetic to life in an imaginative and playful way.
Jessica Turley, ECA student and winner of the competition says:
“Working with Strathberry has been an amazing experience. I love that Strathberry really encouraged us to be as creative and free as possible. It’s so refreshing for a brand to be so open to young designers’ ideas. This experience really feels like the start of my career as a textile designer in a professional setting and has made me so excited for the future possibilities of my work.”
Leeanne Hundleby, Strathberry Co-founder says:
“We’re thrilled to be working with Edinburgh College of Art again on this wonderful project and thoroughly look forward to seeing the creativity and innovative ideas brought by the students every year. As a brand we feel proud to support the amazing talents in our hometown and flourishing creative industries. This is a very special project which we are passionate to continue, endorsing education in the arts and design for emerging young talents.”
